You might just be able to speak with the confidence of Barack Obama or Mitt Romney, but are you that confident with your spellings?
In the world, where people are constantly text messaging with abbreviations and correcting spellings have been left to auto-correct, people's own spelling abilities have gone down the drain. However, you do need to have spelling abilities and spell words correctly especially if you are in school. If you keep using spell check, then you are not improving yourself, you are just using a code written by someone else. Here are some ways by which you can improve the way you spell:
1) Write a word which you find difficult on a sticky note or post-it and place it on your mirror. Every time you look in the mirror, you will see the word and it will get imprinted in your memory.
2) Stop relying on spell checking programs. If you always rely on spell check features, you will never be able to rely on your brain. Just don’t make changes with suggestive spellings; pay attention to how the word should be correctly spelled. It always better to do things on your own, rather than have someone else do it for you.
3) The popular phrase is “an apple a day, keeps the doctor away”. A similar phrase is “a book a day; keeps the brain freeze away.” The more you read; the more words you learn, the better you will spell.
4) When you’re reading books, magazines, and newspapers, either jot down unfamiliar words or circle or highlight them (make sure you’re not writing in library books). This will help you learn new words and increase your vocabulary.
5) You can even use technology to improve your spellings, there are numerous software programs like Ultimate Spelling allows students to create their own learning experiences by tailoring spelling lists to their own needs. It also provides students with endless opportunities to receive positive reinforcement through practices and tests designed to help users succeed and build up self confidence.
