A Career in Music

Although becoming a musician is a risk, and very unorthodox, the rewards are big and if you really are passionate about music, it is not impossible to make a career as a musician. You need to live music, breathe music and love music, to be successful as a musician.

Music is a very lucrative career and there are a lot of talented people that pursue it. You need to believe in yourself and remain persistent, as making a name is not at all easy and it requires a lot of hard work, effort and a little bit of luck. There are a lot of ways in which you can make people more aware about your music and try to establish a name for yourself. Here are some tips to help YOU become the NEXT BIG THING:

1) Technology is Cool...Use it!!!

Thank god for the internet, should be in your prayers everyday, as this is the one medium, with which you can showcase your talent and your music to millions of people across the world. With blogs, video streaming sites like Youtube, podcast's and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, and thousands of other tools, you can create your own music and share it with the world.

2) 3..2..1..You are now LIVE!

When you are beginning a career in Music, you cannot be lazy or shy. You need to keep playing gigs live for whatever reasons. Get your music out to people, as word of mouth is still the best form of publicity. Play live at everything possible for you, sometimes it doesn't matter if you are getting paid, you need to meet the right kind of people, and start getting into the whole music scene. By constantly playing live gigs, people become more and more aware and before you even realize, you will have a lot of fans, as everyone loves and listens to music.

3) Be with your Instrument, till death do you apart!

Know your instrument inside-out, left, right and center. You do not want to screw up in front of people, and nor do you want people to think you are not talented. You need to be married to your instrument, and know every tune, every cord and everything about it. Keep practicing, cover songs by other artists and make your own, but just constantly be at it.

4) DO NOT COPY!!

One of the most important lessons to learn when trying for a career in music, is to be original. Do not be a ripoff of some other talented band or musician, as it will come back to haunt you. Being yourself is very important in this industry and copying others is generally not going to get you places.

5) DO NOT GET RIPPED OFF!!

Another important thing to do, is always copyright your own material, so if anyone uses it illegally or without your permission, you can sue them. Another good part of copyrighting you music, is that if someone wants to use it for a television show, or for a concert, video, etc. you can get paid a premium for it.

We hope you achieve your musical aspirations and really put in an effort, towards this field as a career.
