Geography, despite contrary belief, has a wide range and scope of really interesting careers. If you do really love the subject but think you cannot pursue it because of lack of scope or opportunity, then have no fear, we'll be talking to you about some of the careers that you can pursue.
While there aren't many job titles that are "geographer," there are many types of positions that fit well with a degree in geography. Think about some of the options below as you begin your job search:
1) Urban Planner
With a degree in Geography, you can easily get into Urban planning, and work on zoning, development of areas and renovation of different parts of different areas. If you're interested in this area, be sure to take urban geography and urban planning classes.
We taught you how to read maps, how would you like to make one??? For those with cartography course backgrounds may enjoy work as a cartographer. The news media, book publishers, atlas publishers, government agencies and others are looking for cartographers to help produce maps. This would likely require relocation.
Weather channels, national weather services and the news media, need climatologists. One should also have a minor in Meteorology, if this is the career you wish to pursue.
A plethora of environmental assessment, cleanup, and management companies exist throughout the world today. A geographer brings excellent skills for project management and the development of reports like environmental impact reports. It's often a wide-open field with tremendous growth opportunities.

6) Teaching
Becoming a high school or university geography instructor requires additional education beyond your undergraduate degree but it would certainly be rewarding to instill your love of geography with future geographers. Becoming a geography professor will allow you to research the world of geography and add to the body of knowledge developed by geographers.
These are just some of the careers you can pursue and there are many more. So, if you are really interested in Geography and wish to pursue a career in this field, it is very much possible and you should follow your dreams.
